Within the State of Rajasthan, Laxmi Vilas Palace is situated in the small,
but historical town of Bharatpur, 187 Kms from Delhi, and built in 1887 for Raja Raghunath Singh, the younger brother of the then ruler of Bharatpur, Maharaja Ram Singh. In earlier times, this Palace was known as Raghunath-Niwas. Later on, converted to the name of Laxmi Vilas Palace, it was used for the beautiful veiled Jat princesses. The entire palace was adorned by beautiful Jalis all over its canopies in order that no one could have a look at the Jat princesses and this is why it is known as a Zenana - female living. Bharatpur, also known as
the impregnable fort, witnessed the entertainment of high dignitaries with feast and festivities, often lasting for days.
In 1994, our family home was converted to a hotel. Here at Laxmi Vilas Palace,
you will witness a lively fusion of Rajput and Mughal architecture, and Brij culture (Lord Krishna Land). From our courtyard to our newly refurbished rooms, a true old style manner is maintained throughout.
Let us share with you, our vast history of by gone days in a setting of 50 acres of secluded, romantic and peaceful land. You may also relive the history of our past ruler of Bharatpur, feel the warm hospitality extended to you by our present generation living in the Palace. We will do our best to make your stay comfortable, whilst ensuring you take away with you lasting memories.
